State Mandated Continuing

Education Programs

Beginning on July 1, 2011, any licensed Construction Supervisor whose license was up for renewal on that date or any date thereafter, within the 2 year license period, has to complete either a 10 hour program for a Restricted License or a 12 hour program for an Unrestricted License; otherwise, their license will NOT be renewed.  Specialty Licenses only require completing a 6 hour program prior to license renewal.

The State requires that these programs must include one (1) hour of each of the following 5 topics, which will allow a Coordinatory to present any other topic for the remaining hours.

  1. Code Review
  2. Workplace Safety
  3. Business Practices / Workers Compensation
  4. Energy
  5. Lead Safety Practices (only first renewal cycle)

* All State Mandated Continuing Education Programs MUST be approved by the BBRS *

BE CAREFUL

Failure to take the state mandated hours of continuing education within the prescribed time means that your license will NOT be renewed ! There is a one year grace period to complete required hours, BUT you will

NOT be able to use your license during that time.  You will also have to take a TEST before you are able to renew license.

 * Example of the 2 year cycle *

  • Licensees who renew a license or are issued a first-time license on or after July 1, 2011 shall be expected to fully comply with education requirements following a full two-year cycle or elongated first-time license cycle (a first-time license cycle may extend beyond two years depending on the licensees birth date).

  • Licensees who renew or are issued a first-time license prior to July 1, 2011 will be on a different schedule.  Please see examples below for clarity.

Example No. 1:          John Smith renews his license on July 1, 2011.  He next renews on July 1, 2013.  Is he required to comply with continuing education requirements?  Yes, because a full two-years has passed since his last renewal.

Example No. 2:          John Smith renews his license on June 30, 2011.  He next renews on June 30, 2013.  Is he required to comply with continuing education requirements?  No, a full two-year cycle has not been completed since the July 1, 2011 implementation date.  He then renews on June 30, 2015, is he required to comply with continuing education requirements?  Yes.
